Sailboat at Tahiti Beach, Bahamas

A just about perfect day on a perfect beach, as we all struggled with painting the perfect clouds...

Hopetown from the Ferry Dock

I painted this as a demonstration during my Bahamas workshop and as usual started with the sky--and could hear the gasps behind me as red and yellow pigments hit the paper...aren't clouds white?

Clearing Storm, Hopetown Harbor

Those few minutes when the weather changes make for some of the most exciting--and challenging--skies.

Overcast Morning, Inlet, Hopetown

Another painting from a rainy day, this time waiting out the clouds from the deck of a friendly restaurant.

Harbor After Storm, Hopetown

When you're in the Bahamas on a painting trip, a stormy day becomes an opportunity for a new subject rather than just a lost day at the beach.

Hopetown Harbor, Sunset

The red striped lighthouse in a famous tourist attraction here, and best approached in a painting as one small element among many that are all held together by the light.

Beach Chair and Cottage

I used all five blues on my palette while painting this one, plus an orange I rarely dip into when working at home in the Vermont landscape.

Houses by the Dock, Hopetown

My first painting of the week here in the Bahamas, sitting by the harbor in the sun.

This painting is part of my Travelogue series. All of these 10" x 10" watercolors are $350., and I'll be donating 1/3rd of sales to Partners in Health, which provides medical services in Haiti and other third world countries. Please click here for more information!

Tangerine Stall

A glimpse of red, orange and blue in strong sun, on a dusty road in the Dominican Republic.

Hanging Laundry

Women hanging wet laundry from roofs, barbed wire fences, and clothes lines stretched in unlikely places was a common sight as I was driving through small towns in the Dominican Republic.

Red Dress, Batey Libertad

Another patient poser, this time in my son Colin's baseball hat.

Sold as a donation to the Batey's clean water project.

Playing Field at the Batey, Sunset

Most Dominicans are baseball nuts, but soccer is the first love for Haitian immigrants in the Batey.

Sold as a donation to the Batey's clean water project.

Near Santiago, DR

Groups of men talking amid their motorcycles--a common road-side sight here in the Dominican Republic. A visually exciting place that I'm finding is full of kindly people.

Sunset, Cabrera

My reward for a night on a plane and then an adventurous drive in a rental car from Santiago to the coast: watching the sun go down and the moon rise over the ocean.

Pond, Autumn Morning

It was foggy this morning when we began painting, but by the time we finished the gray mist had lifted to reveal the pond in all its October colors.

Walking Down, Madrid

I've been in museums here in Paris all week getting ready for my art history and sketchbook workshop--and am still looking back to my time in Spain with new paintings that I'll be posting over the coming weeks.
