Sunday Sketchbook: Vermont

Here's Wilmington, Vermont, in happier and drier times. Just a week ago today, Wilmington was extensively damaged by flooding from Hurricane Irene, as was Wallingford, pictured below.

An update on my online Vermont Flood Relief Art Sale:
I'm delighted to report that we raised $2,500. yesterday! Thank you so much to all who purchased. There are still eleven painted photos left, including some of my favorites (like the one below). You can take a look by clicking here. Then email me at sa@susanabbott.com and I'll reserve your piece.

Sunday Sketchbook: Vermont

I'm back on the road again this week, gathering sketches and impressions of towns small and miniscule for my blog Let Me Show You Vermont. Here's a view from the southern part of the state of Main Street, Wilmington.

Sunday Sketchbook: In Transit

I'm in Vermont after weeks of travel and teaching, and looking ahead to some more of both--but today I'm happy to be home on a damp autumn Sunday. I'll make sauce from a bushel of my apples, dig the last bed of red potatoes, and then come in, pick up my brush and see if I can find my way back to painting again.

I pulled over on Route 7 near Ferrisburg to take a closer look at the tracks disappearing south into the distance.

Sunday Sketchbook: Vermont

I've started a new blog called "Let Me Show You Vermont", a sketchbook exploration of my home state. Why another project, you might understandably ask? Take a look at my first posting for an explanation, and let me know what you think!

Sunday Sketchbook: Paris

It's good to be home again in Vermont, but I do miss some things about Paris, including the ubiquitous cafe (a public institution that allows a solitary person like me the comfort of company without the obligations of social contact.) And the cafe creme is great.

Fall Morning, Luxembourg Gardens

My busy and enjoyable week teaching an art history and sketchbook workshop in Paris ended last night with a celebratory dinner with my hardworking class (hours walking the Louvre and 6th arrondisement are exhilarating and also a rigorous mental and physical workout!)We enjoyed the last in a series of delicious dinners around town at the bustling art deco brasserie La Coupole. This morning I'm off alone for a quiet day revisiting favorite neighborhoods with my sketchbook and watercolors. I fly home to Vermont tomorrow, and look forward to posting my daily journal paintings again--beginning with a few looking back to an inspiring week in this beautiful city.
