Small Town, Twilight

Sold
A light in a window on a wintry evening says "home" in a Vermont village.

This seemed like a fitting image for me to contribute to the Daily Paintworks online "images of home" auction to help Japanese people who have lost everything in the recent disaster.

Here's how you can help! Browse the sale starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday, and bid on a painting (including mine above) during the week's in-house auction. 100% of sales will go to a relief charity. You'll be getting a painting to enjoy, plus helping folks in great need.

Artists, please consider contributing a painting on the broad theme of "home". Click here for more information.

Thank you for writing, everyone! Working with color on a photograph is an interesting exercise, as the drawing is there, but I still have to make all of the color choices one would with a regular oil painting. Having the photo as a base actually pushes me to think less literally about color, and instead to chose "unrealistic" colors--which actually help to evoke mood, I think.

This is such a successful piece ....how you managed the warm and cools in the evening glow and the snow. A wonderful piece for the auction.

It's Barnard, Candy, driving in from the direction of Bethel.

Wow! What great colours! You can really feel the chill in the air and the weak sunshine trying it's best.

Good work Susan!

Susan, this is stunning! The colors are magnificent, and you've really nailed the essence of a New England twilight.
