Blue Wall, Hopetown

One of the pleasures of painting in the Bahamas is the bright, oddball hues of painted surfaces--pinks, purples and blues that would be ugly against New England greens, but are perfectly at home in the high-keyed light and intense natural color of a tropical landscape.

Looks like fun. And yes you're right. I live in New England and unless I'm painting flowers or their pots, these intense colors are difficult to paint in the landscape.

I fall in love with the colors every time I visit the Bahamas and think, "Why can't I paint my house pink or cobalt blue?" Then I return home to reality! ha ha

The view out the windows for so many months of the year here in Vermont is of restrained, neutral snow and sky-- so for the last few years I've been repainting the interior walls of my New England farmhouse with ochre, green, rose, and yellow, just to get some respite from our winter white color scheme. I haven't ventured into tropical cobalt and purples yet, but that may be coming.
