Thinking of seasons and the landscape: my first visit to Les Bassacs was on an autumn day, and this vista was hidden behind a curtain of fog. What a wonderful surprise to see it revealed when I returned to paint there the next summer.

Sunday Sketchbook: The Caribbean

On Tuesday I'll be leaving for my second trip to the Caribbean (the first was to Bequia, pictured here) this time to teach and paint for a week on Abaco Island in the Bahamas. I'm looking forward to starting a new series of Travelogue studies--check your mailbox for daily posts, if you're a subscriber!

Sunday Sketchbook: Puerto Rico
I wrote at the bottom of this page: "I wasn't planning on being here now, but instead of a nice evening exploring St. Vincent on the way to Bequia, the four of us are crammed into a crummy motel room next to the San Juan airport." No matter where an airline strands you, if you have a sketchbook you can always stay (almost) sane.
