View from Sault


Today was my group's last session of plein air painting and we had a fitting finale: a panoramic view from the high village of Sault, stretching from a valley of lavender, wheat and hay fields up to the blue heights of Mont Ventoux.

Giotto Study

I'm in Washington, DC teaching for ten days, which accounts for my visual journal hiatus. I'll post some of my workshop exercises--this is a response to the Assisi fresco "St. Francis Honored by a Simple Man." How did Giotto build a composition that began with a square in the middle?
