Looking out at the grey fields here on a rainy Vermont afternoon, it's hard to believe I was outside painting this harbor just a few weeks ago. Tomorrow I'm heading south to teach in Washington, where I'll post the rest of my Bahamas plein air landscapes, and probably find enough spring to paint outside again.

Painted during rain and wind under shelter of the ferry dock, while barely holding on to my easel, palette, brushes, hat and composure.

The Seine towards Musee D'Orsay

The word "luminous" comes to mind when I'm walking in Paris--the limestone facades, expanse of river, and long, intricate history of this city all "radiating and reflecting light".
