Looking North, Ocean City

A hotel glowing in the sun like an enchanted castle (rather than a Holiday Inn) at the end of a golden November day.

I like all your painting, but this one appeals to me because of its strong use of complimentary colors, and the way it combines a recognizable landscape with an image that is really rather abstract.

Thank you for writing, Sherry. The abstraction appealed to me, too. Also that the distant hotel looked almost other-worldly, the way it glowed in the afternoon light (didn't quite capture that, I'll have to try again with a larger composition.) I added that long cast shadow at the very end of the session--helped to structure the composition more, set up a foreground, and bring in a strong complement, as you were noticing.
