Thank you, Adrianne, glad you like this one. I'm starting an oil from this composition--I'll post it "in process" soon. Are you in Portland Oregon or Maine?
In my estimation, you've done something wonderful ... and tricky ... here. You accurately represented the warmth of the sun in sky above along with the cold shadows on the show below in a believable way. I'd say that was a fairly impressive feat. Seems to me you have the entire color wheel included here without looking stilted or too "Kodak colorized". Looks believable, inviting. Allows one to really feel the temperatures and surroundings. Great work!
Thanks very much for writing, Marie. The different temperatures of light, as well as the pattern of darks, are what attracted me to this motif. The watercolor posted here is a study for an oil painting, which I'll be posting in stages.

My visual journal is inspired by what I see every day: the weather on my hill in northern Vermont, what’s growing in my garden, a curio brought back from travels or an ordinary object from the kitchen shelf made special by careful looking. "Journal" paintings are fast, improvised daily entries, a chance to experiment with new approaches and pay attention to the here-and-now. When I’m traveling, quickly recorded impressions are posted from Paris, Provence, Spain, Maine and anywhere else I’ll find myself this year. My large studio compositions take time, planning, refining of the original inspiration. I'll also be sharing that different kind of creative process with you here on "A Painter's Year".

I love it - my favorite barn picture ever! And the light on the snow - beautiful!
