Sunday Market, Provence

On the first day of our workshop, we explored the wonderful market at L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, and I had a few minutes to buy some fruit, fabric and pottery for still life before I sat down to paint this view of the back of a basket vender's stall, as seen from across the narrow Sorgue river.

This is such a pretty painting and it really feels like I'm "there." Look forward to seeing more. Isle sur la Sorgue on Sunday morning is very special indeed.

I soooooooo love this. Incredible color in all your work. Also jealous of your Provence trip. I was there 2 years ago now and dying to return ASAP!!!!

this is a beautiful little painting - i love how the yellows and oranges just blend into each other and then the cool purples really balance the picture out. Such beautiful colours in the shadows of the fabric too.

Thanks for writing, Alice. I really enjoy that first day of painting in the market--I've shopped there enough over the years that buying what I'm painting no longer tempts me!
