Elements of Place

I've just pulled out my watercolors here in the Pacific Northwest, and will have a painting of Seattle to show you tomorrow. Meanwhile, here's my new Elements of Place website, which presents my complete suite of paintings for the Vermont "Art of Action" project. Let me know what you think!

Susan, I took a quick look at the website and it's terrific. I love seeing the groups of images, then reading the short, cogent essays. I'll go back and read and look at everything.

Susan, even though I told you that your watercolors are my favorite, I have to say now I'm torn. This oil painting is gorgeous. I also checked out Elements of Place. Beautiful work. I'm almost ready for bed, so I'll have to go back to read the essays and look more closely at the paintings tomorrow. You are amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing Seattle watercolors.

Susan, this is lovely and COLD! A great sense of place. I have visited your web pages, have travelled in Vermont in 1994 and will possibly look at your website again! The paintings are wonderful. I did not see the titles, but the painting with the cow in the foreground and the farm pickers next to it were some of my favourites!Yes, I remember the cows of Vermont, the red barns(and Ben&Jerry's!)Regards from Cape Town, South Africa!

Thank you for your comments, both from Vermonters Candy and Altoon, and visitors from far away. Marie, this landscape must look about opposite of what you are used to seeing in Cape Town. The cows were part of Farm Element--we are losing too many of our dairy farms, but the field workers in another of the panels show a type of small-scale local agriculture that's fortunately being revived by a younger generation.

Susan, by sharing your home state with us through your paintings, and showing your love of the subject, you have made us want to visit and see those sights, too. And that is really an accomplishment, in addition to just sharing your watercolor, acrylic and oil painting skills.

Susan,

I have always enjoyed seeing your work. I appreciate your designs, especially your pushing the use of color that is bright without being garish.

I think you had a really good Artist Statement about your thoughts and intent for the Vermont "Art of Action" project. I think that your concept and execution shows your thought and care for the projects message and your love of Vermont. I think the people of Vermont and the project organizers will recognize the message in your presentation, that you are an excellent artist and they will be proud to call you one of their own. I see a real labor of LOVE.

Never having been to Vermont, I now am sure that I want to include it my travel plans. I can't imagine that every plan to advertise the State of Vermont would not include the art work and essays of Susan Abbott.

May you many, many painting days and the muse,

Will

Many, many thanks for your comments, RH, Will and Michael. If my paintings inspire you to visit Vermont--and inspire Vermonters to help protect our wonderful state--I'll have accomplished something with my Elements paintings. It was a real pleasure for me to have a year set aside to visually explore my own home grounds. I discovered much that I hadn't seen before, even within a few miles of my studio!
