Study: Winter Farm

This small farm is on our hill, and sometime in the future I'd like to paint a whole series on the work that goes on here through the seasons. On winter evenings these windows always glow with a warm light--the farmer is feeding and watering his herd before everyone can go to sleep.

I was looking through my flat file and found this self-portrait drawn in a Baltimore studio a few years back, on one of those uncertain winter days artists have when they're not sure what (or how) to paint.

Newton's Farm, Early Morning

Today's painting marks a full cycle for "A Painter's Year", and it's been great fun sharing new images and ideas with all of you. I look forward to seeing what up ahead on our road through 2009!
