Painting in the Cherry Orchard

Watercolor plein air painting: simple materials (paper, dried paint, a brush and water), complicated calculations (lines, shapes, lights and darks, colors, space, proportion and atmosphere, each component affecting the other), emotions (frustration and exhilaration) and practice (work and play).

I was attempting to mimic some of what I see in your paintings yesterday and I lost all control of the paint. Sigh...Your words beneath the painting regarding emotions is definitely how I feel when trying to do a piece. I love this painting! Just a lovely feel to it!

Thank you! Trying to get the figure to sit in the landscape was a struggle--I was attracted to the red shirt, painted it, and the rest of my time painting was about getting your eye off of the red shirt.
