Study: Winter Road

After the snowfall here last night (the season's first plowing and new snow banks in the yard that will probably be sitting there come April) this scene along the Bayley-Hazen Road outside of Peacham looks more like early spring than deep winter.

Study: Spring Road

I've been thinking about why a particular landscape makes us feel a certain way--does what we see outdoors evoke emotion because of memory and meaning associations, or color and lines of composition, or the input of our other senses as we look at a scene--or all of these possibilities? (Or maybe many people don't feel much as they travel though their own particular environment any given day.) The studies I'm making for my "Art of Action" proposal are a response to this question--specifically, why Vermonters seem to care so much about their landscape.
