Memory: Hedgerow, Iowa


I was waylaid by an unfamiliar dirt road this morning on my way back from Montpelier, and driving slowly past newly plowed fields and freshly leafed trees was reminded again of late spring days years ago, painting on back roads near Iowa City.

Holsteins, Late Afternoon


My grandmother lived on the outskirts of Ithaca, New York, and when I visited her in the summer I felt happiness standing alone in her front yard looking at the cows, exotic and evocative to a me, a child from the suburbs, now all these years later standing in my own yard and feeling happy seeing cows across the road.
