Lemon, Melon and Lime


I can't paint or eat a cantalope without thinking of Cavaillon in Provence, an area that grows melons that are (like hand tended peaches from a small orchard in Virginia or raspberries from my backyard in Vermont) the Garden of Eden ideal of what fruit should be.

I could have been out in the garden today, planting spinach and weeding the first witch grass, but instead was in the studio working on a multipanel painting of multicolored houses behind piles of snow.
