Shell From Bequia

Two winters ago I went to the Caribbean for the first time, and now I understand why many New Englanders (such as Winslow Homer) around this time of year splurged on trips to warm, sunny places with blue water. Maybe next year I'll stock up on cerulean and rent a little house in Friendship Bay for the month of February.

Model in a Leotard

Painting the figure is like bar practice for a dancer: a regular exercise that grounds artists in the fundamentals of their craft.

Thinking about globalization while I was painting this: cup and fabric from France, Chilean grapes, orange from Spain, and Vermont milk.

Memory: Roussilon Sunrise

I seem to be alternating so far this month between two landscape subjects: the frozen white fields and woods outside my window, and memories of warm, colorful Provence. It's hard to imagine more contrasting compositions, or two sensations more different then how it would feel to stand on a snow pile in my field this morning, versus stand on this hill looking across the valley to Roussilon.
