Study: Winter Road #3

Today the Vermont Arts Council and Orton Foundation announced the ten winners of their "Art of Action" competition, and I'm happy to say that I was on the list. This project will generously fund each artist's creation of a body of work exploring the theme of Vermont's future. During the next few months I'll post my progress as my watercolor landscape studies become the oil series "Elements of Place". Click here to learn more about the unique "Art of Action" project and read the artist's proposals.

Study: Winter Road #2

I'm trying out a few more compositions, looking for the right "winter" panel in my Road Element painting, an image with the right combination of "Wow, that view ahead is really pretty" and "Wow, this driving is really scary!"

Memory: Provence Alley

Here's one more sun-drenched street from last summer (in the wonderful village of Viens) to provide a little warmth before I get back to painting slushy Vermont roads in February.

Sunday Sketchbook: Rome

I've been preoccupied with the Vermont landscape for the past few months, and looking through my sketchbooks this morning (and then out at the unending, empty grey sky and white fields) has me feeling a bit melancholy, and missing long strolls through vibrant cities, especially Rome. Here's one page of A Sunday Walk in Rome.
