Little Table in Tuscany

Art, love, the fruit of the fields and all the faraway places in the world: so much to be thankful for.

Model with a Red Teapot

Here's a figure study that I'm going to keep in my studio drawer as a reminder of how much color can derive from a very limited palette (in this case prussian blue, cadmium red and naples yellow)-- a good lesson in general right now, given the new imperative to do more with what we have on hand.

Memory: Baltimore

I rented a studio near this part of Fells Point harbor for a time, and though it seemed odd to some that I would commute 45 minutes north on a freeway from my nice suburban neighborhood in Washington to spend the day painting in a seedy section of Baltimore, it made perfect sense to me to work in walking distance of these hoists and tanks. I'll have to go back there again with my french easel this spring and see if there's any industrial landscape I love left
in my old neighborhood.

Sunday Sketchbook: London

From my last trip to London, Monday, October 6th, 7:30 pm:
"On the #24 bus again, this time from Charring Cross Road to Victoria. My family calls my propensity for staring at strangers 'creeping", and I know I do stare. But I wonder about them-who are they, where are they going, what's their life like?"
