Cherry Tomatoes and Eggplants


I was out in my garden yesterday picking the last of the tender summer vegetables, and then painted them with my studio heater on for the first time, just for a few minutes to take away the unfamiliar chill.

The Sault town park overlooking a vast valley of farms and lavender fields is a favorite place to paint when I'm in Provence, but on this summer day I'm looking up towards cumulous clouds over limestone Mt. Ventoux.

Red Storefront


Shopping in a small town is a pleasure rather than a chore: park your car, grab your market bag, and stroll from store to library to farmer's market, exchanging greetings with neighbors along the way. The news and opinions in a five minute conversation on a town street are like lines moving through a painting, connecting part to part and creating a strong whole.

Milk House


I'm back home on my hill in Vermont, painting barns instead of urban alleys. I do either happily, but it is lovely to be back in cool quiet again.
